This week was packed full with classes visiting the library for their orientations!
During the Library Teachers' Training at the end of May, one of the sessions involved the teachers co-writing lesson plans to use when introducing their classes to the library. The subject and objectives were determined by the teachers and were based on the grade level of the classes. For example, the Kindergarten teachers focused on introducing the library personnel and how they will be assisting the Kinder kids. Grades 1-3 learned about the 6 main parts of a book: front cover, back cover, title, author, illustrator, and spine. Grades 4-6 learned about how they can take care of the books in the library, and their own textbooks, by protecting them from baby siblings, pets, and rain--very important now that it is rainy season. They also learned how to use a book mark to keep their places in books, and a shelf marker in order to keep their book's place on the shelf while browsing.
Each adviser teacher (like a homeroom teacher) was responsible for bringing her class to the library and conducting the lesson. Everyone did a great job and it was really great to see all the kids so excited by the library and all the books!

We have another 3 full days of orientations this coming week! After that, each one of the 1,400 pupils at Magarao Central School will have had a chance to visit the library! I already have teachers signing up for their next session to bring their class to visit! :)
