"Viva la Virgen!"

Finally it was time to see the Ina come down the river and the crowds were more impressive than ever!  Chels and I tried to barge our way through the crowd on the bridge and after a few minutes of literally pushing and being pushed, we were able to make it onto the bridge where we hoped to catch a glimpse of the procession.  At first we were near the middle of the bridge and it was too wide and too crowded to be able to see the river on either side.  However, once the procession passed under the bridge, the police allowed the crowd to spread out into the space they had been keeping vacant earlier and we were able to move right up to the side!
This is the best shot of the procession I could manage after taking a few videos of the crazy crowd!

Once the show was over, we joined the mass of people trying to leave the bridge.
In front of us:

And behind us:

It was a really incredible day full of people watching (and more people watching us), walking all around Naga City, and being able to join and participate in one of the biggest religious festivals in the Philippines!

We capped off the night by checking out a new American bar that just opened on Magsaysay Ave.  The American guy who owns the bar with his Filipino wife was there, along with his American sister and her friend, so it was nice to interact with people we have culture in common with!  However, the sister and her friend put all of us PCVs to shame with their outfits and how they got all dolled up!  We felt so frumpy and unfashionable!  Ugh.  I'm hoping my gorgeous sister will be willing to be my personal shopper when I come back and re-teach me how to dress myself! Haha!
