Dinagsa Fiesta, Part 1

A couple weekends ago (I've been slacking on writing this blog post), Chelsea and I traveled to Karla's site in the Visayas for her town's Dinagsa Fiesta.  We saw her pictures from last year and figured it was the perfect time to visit her site!
For the fiesta, each barangay puts together a troop of native dancers that perform dances to drum beats played by the men of the barangay.  The dancers were covered in body paints and held brightly colored props.  Last year there was a competition, but this year it was just a parade and show in the main gathering area.

As we made our way from where the dancers were gathering to the main celebration area, we could see that people were progressively covered in more and more paint!  For this fiesta, everyone carries around little cups of paint (probably just wall paint or whatever they could find) to paint each other!  You could also buy more paint from the stands that had been set up.
It was so fun walking down the street, constantly dipping your fingers in your paint and dragging them along a passerby's arm/face/neck.  Sometimes it was a casual stripe, sometimes it was a whole hand across your face.
Charlie also lives in Cadiz with Karla so we met up with him and the other 272 volunteers he was hosting.

Once the dancers had made their way to the stage area, an opening was cleared for them to perform.

All throughout the day, we took tons of pictures with random people who wanted us to be in their pictures.

271 & 272 PCVs!

Somehow my pictures got out of order, but I don't feel like switching them around.
This picture was in the beginning of the day, obviously, since you can still recognize us!
