I pitched an idea to my co-teacher for us to have some of our students make Valentine's Day cards to give to the residents of a local shelter... she loved it. We shared our idea with two of our classes and they loved it, too! So one day last week, we gave our classes time to work on their Valentine's Day cards and decorations.
Our bag full of Valentine's Day cheer...
Originally we were planning to take a group of kids on Saturday to hand deliver the cards and spend some time visiting with the residents (children and elderly), but when we shared our idea with our Principal, she suggested that we go on Feb. 14 so the experience would be more genuine.
Our students had also started collecting used clothing to donate to the charity and our Principal wanted to inform the whole school so that everyone could contribute. We ended up receiving tons and tons of clothes! Some of our grade 6 students came in to sort through the clothing and get everything ready...
Box full of toys for the kids!
One student showing me what she thought were ridiculous shorts...
Lots of bags full of clean, sorted clothing to be donated!
